Get baking for Mental Health Awareness Week
This year, Mental Health Awareness Week - hosted by the Mental Health Foundation - takes place from May 10-16th.
This year's theme is "Connect With Nature", with the organisers encouraging people to get out into the great outdoors, which can help you feel more positive, balance your mood and reduce stress levels.
There are lots of different ways to do this, whether it's going for a walk or run, going on a bug hunt with the kids, or simply taking advantage of the warmer weather and the reduced COVID-19 restrictions to get outdoors and meet family or friends for a picnic or BBQ in the garden or a local park.
The latter can be great for your mental health in many ways; not only will you get the benefits from being outdoors, but being with friends and family can also lift your mood. And what's more, a spot of mindful baking to create your contribution to your alfresco feast can also give your mental health a boost.
How can baking boost your mental health?
Baking can be great for mental health in a variety of ways. The simple act of putting together the ingredients and seeing your efforts create a beautiful masterpiece can lift your spirits, and the process of baking can keep you focused and distracted, meaning you're not thinking about the things that worry you.
Baking kits are a great way to give you that boost without the stress of shopping for ingredients and making sure you get everything just right. They're ideal for those who are anxious, and perfect for the whole family to get involved. The smell and the flavour of freshly baked bread and other treats can also give you an instant uplift, as can seeing other people enjoying the treats that you've made.
